Mary Shelley had an interesting way to start off Frankenstein. She began by introducing a frame story about a man named Robert Walton . Robert Walton was an explorer who set out to sail to Antartica . Along his journey he comes across a man , starved and near death , on a peice of ice . This man , referred to as the stranger , tells Walton of his adventures . The first chapter of the book opens up with the strangers story of his life from the beginning . Now , if I were to write a horror novel I would not start it the way she did . Reason being , I honestly did not find it interesting . The beginning was too slow for me . I would want to write something which excites the reader from the first page to the last page . I would probably open the book with an exciting scene of something happening , then backtracking and showing the reader how it got to that point . Then once I reached the point I started with again I would write on from there . It would seem like an interesting way to write a book .
